If you’re not entirely sure what CBD is, this is an excellent place to start in your inquiry of whether CBD is right for you. Even if you are familiar, we’d like to provide you some information for your knowledge-base.
CBD is short-hand for Cannabidiol, a biologically occurring cannabinoid component of cannabis. It is one of many cannabinoids derived from hemp, or the cannabis plant. CBD lacks THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the primary set of elements that produces a psychotropic experience, that of being “high”, like one would experience from smoking or ingesting marijuana.
The human body contains an endocannabinoid receptor system (ECS), which is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes to keep them in balance. Within the ECS, cannabinoid receptor sites are located all throughout the body, from the brain to the connective tissue. CBD binds to these sites in order to promote the proper physiological function of the muscular system, immune system, nervous system and more.
The endocannabinoid system is a biological structure inherent in all mammal species and is responsible for overseeing a wide spectrum of biological mechanisms, such as immune responses and reactions, memory, sleep, and others.
The cannabinoid receptors are constructed to network with endocannabinoids, the naturally occurring cannabinoids produced by the brain. As studies have shown, these receptors also interact with the cannabinoids of plant-derivative CBD, to produce a variety of beneficial responses in the brain and body, as we’ve explored.
